Static Website Deployment from Google Drive

Gael Thomas writes an interesting article titled “How to deploy a static website for free in just 3 minutes straight from your Google Drive, using Fast.io.” for which he does a great job at explaining. He states that he is unpaid by Fast.io and that it is preferred for its simple basic website deployment which makes this feel like less of an advertisement.

How does Fast.io work?

Using Fast.io’s Content Delivery networks, a user is able to host a static website using a cloud storage service such as Google Drive. The name Google Drive does not come to my mind when I think of web site hosting options which is why this article caught my attention.

Users get to select between three options for web site creation which include a file sharing website, a flies browser website, or a web page that is selected by Thomas to host a static HTML site. After connecting to ones cloud storage, users can create custom domain names, monitor Google Analytics and even password protection.

Reflection:

I personally am excited to try out Fast.io with my cloud storage system in the near future as a little side project. I am curious as to how much manipulation can be done as a plain HTML site is fairly simple and if additional CSS/Javascript files can be included.
